About Judicial Board
The Judicial Board is a student run adjudicating body of the Agnes Scott College that exists as a means of ensuring that students upholds the standards of the Honor Code in their residential life. The Honor Code expects that each student's behavior and actions will contribute to a community characterized by individual integrity, respect, and a concern for the implications and repercussions of individual behavior.
The Board is comprised of approximately 12 to 13 members within a given term, holding various positions from class representatives to president. We are trusted to carefully deliberate over cases of alleged violations of residential, non-academic, policies (academic violations are handled by Honor Court). These cases can be brought to the Judicial Board by Residence Life (RA's, RD's, GHD's, etc.) or common students.
Currently, the Director of Residence Life, Anna Hobby, is the judicial adviser to the Judicial Board so that she may insure that procedures are followed. As adviser, she has access to all information in Judicial Board investigations and cases.
The purpose of the Judicial Board is to educate rather than punish, to be helpful rather than vindictive, and to stimulate students to think about their actions as they relate to the other members of our community. Our goal is to encourage students to generate a sense of mutual respect among their peers and assist them in assuming responsibility for their behaviors.
